Historical Coil Pot & Abstract Coil

The different clay bodies used for these pieces were not too dissimilar. I did not notice any specific differences when working with them.

It is difficult to make sure the clay keeps its form as you work. If the clay is too wet, the sculptures sink and warp and you cannot press very hard or work with the clay too much because the clay dries out, becomes misshapen, and and often falls apart.

Attaching clay is also a chore. It took me a while to get the hang of how much scoring needs to be done and how much slip needs to be used to properly attach pieces. It is also important that you pay attention to how wet or dried out the clay is. If the clay is too dry, the additions with crack and fall off.

Three-dimensional design is a new realm of art. I had to decide what each side, angle, and edge looks and feels like. The artwork becomes more whole and when each angle is approached with purpose.
